The value of seaweed

Wild seaweeds can bring something vital to human nutrition almost impossible to get from our daily diet. Many people ask which product to use.

They all contain the entire spectrum of micro nutrients – minerals, vitamins, fatty acids, phenols, polysacharrides, antioxidants – in the right relationship, which is more important than the amount, and more similar to our own equally primordial human chemistry, than almost anything else we can eat.

These are the nutrients which enable thousands of bodily and mental processes to keep us healthy every day.

But two things are crucial – daily use, and tiny amounts.

Daily use, because we can’t manufacture these micronutrients from other foods we eat, so it’s our job to make sure they’re in our daily food. And too often they’re not, as survey after survey has shown, for many years (1-5).

Tiny amounts, because the body takes them up, from digestion via receptors, which in any case restrict and balance their uptake. Higher levels are mostly useful only for limited periods.

For permanent daily use, a gram or so of seaweed is enough, starting with a couple of Seagreens Food Capsules, or a quarter-teaspoon of Food Granules each morning.

The other products can be added in different meals, as condiments, snacks, or drinks for children.

It follows that if you’re going to use seaweed like this, every day, in the smallest child or therapeutically, it’s composition must be thoroughly known, continually monitored, and consistent.

This is what Seagreens uniquely provides, evidenced in millions of daily diets, now in more than 15 countries, and in award-winning nutrition studies published since the project began, in Norway and the British Isles almost 30 years ago (6).

The result is safe, non-allergenic seaweed, and cumulative nutritional benefits which over time, build resilience and stamina.

This is completely different from artisan seaweed, wherever produced as an occasional vegetable, a sushi-wrap, or a snack in a bag, and it enables us to use seaweed in a different way.

The golden rule, to get at least a gram of the most nutritious seaweed into our daily diet, is the whole purpose of the Seagreens project.

Our seaweed ingredients can also be consumed in our customers’ food and nutrition products.

I’ve taken 2 Food Capsules every day for 25 years and I put the Culinary Ingredient into many things I eat. Sometimes more, sometimes less.

I put Pelvetia on a pesto pasta. Instead of salt, I use The Mineral Salt. Only use the Iodine+ capsules if you know you are lacking iodine, and iodine sufficiency is all you want to achieve. For children, Iodine Lite.

The Food Capsules give you the same iodine you need, but twice as much of all the other nutrients. If you don’t want capsules, use the Food Granules. Put them in almost anything you eat, or in a fruit juice or smoothie. Seaweed nutrition is as easy as that.
